Notes for William Cawley (Cauley) Sr
This is the only remaining part of the Funeral Card for William Cauley Sr. patriarch of the Cauley, Jordan family that traveled from Ireland in 1883 to escape persecution and economic decline. He was born in County Mayo in 1842 and married Anna Geraghty, daughter of James Geraghty.

William is your authors great grandfather. he is listed as passenger 228, 40 years old and a laborer next is his wife Annie. It is her relatives--[Geraghtys] who "sponser" the Cawley's immigration to the US. Annie is listed as a housewife and 39 years old. I have only recently noticed another Cawley on the list and this opens considerable speculation. Anna Cawley is listed at the end of the family list, pass 238, 60 years old and 'Matron' could she be an older sister or maybe aunt??? William and Michael's mother was Margaret Barrett. So who is Anna Cawley?

Jim Hufferd I have recently learned from a researcher in Ireland that in the period of 'assisted immigration under Tuke's Fund was..."The first ship to leave Blacksod Bay was the SS Nestorian on March 30th 1883 arriving in Boston April 15th (it arrived the evening before but the emigrants were not allowed to disembark until the next morning.) There was also an eye witness account of the Nestorian leaving Blacksod Bay in the Irish Times (Newspaper) by their Correspondent." Also that my passenger list was a customs list and... On a copy of the “original ship’s manifest” for SS Nestorian it also states alongside the names of the Cawley family “ticketed to Rushville, Ind. have nephews there, have 8” (edit by jwh 8 pounds)
