Notes for Capt Thomas William Powell II
Born in 1616 in Suffolk, England, He was the son of Thomas Powell & Elizabeth Parsons. Not only was He an emigrant, He was a sailor and sea captain in the sack and rum trade between the West Indies and North America in the 17th century.
Excerpt from his son's Memorial:
"Thomas Powell was a son of a rum dealer who made frequent trips between Barbados, West Indies and New York. Young Thomas would travel with his father on his trips. On one of these ventures, his father stopped in Huntington Harbor, NY to visit a friend, who was a master shoemaker. He decided to leave Thomas there to become an apprentice with him. Thomas was just 12 years old."
