LUClUS C RUSS Representative from the Second District of Hillsdale county was born in Livingston county NY December 14 1827 and was raised on a farm in Bloomfield Ontario county NY where he received a good common education His father Deacon Elisha Russ was born at Woodstock Vermont Nov 13 1792 and was a volunteer in the war of 1812 Mr Russ married Kate Burrows of Bridgeport Conn on June 7 1850 and on February 5 1852 sailed from New York for California On May 9 1851 he became a resident of Hillsdale county where he engaged in farming and saw milling He settled in the village of North Adams in November 1867 where for nearly five terms he has administered justice to the needy in a very satisfactory manner and has been recognized as one of its foremost citizens He was village assessor three years and is at present village attorney He has always been an active and leading Republican and was one of the first to boom Russell A Alger for President and for whom he has great admiration Was elected to the House of 1889 90 by a vote of 2.4 15 to 1.605 for GF Slnith Democrat and 302 for W Wright Prohibitionist
