Notes for Michael Anthony Farinelli
Michael (Mike ) Farinelli of Olathe, Kansas, passed away on Thursday after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Raton, New Mexico, Mike grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from the University of New Mexico. His sales career took him to Huston, Tx, Minneapolis, Mn, and finally brought him to Olathe in the late 1970s, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He loved fishing, horse races, playing cards, cooking, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He was a free spirit, and though he was a very private individual, he opened up his heart willingly to those closest to him. His life was his children and his grandchildren, showing us every day how to be the best Dad, Grandpa (Nono or Bobby), and loving husband. He was so proud of his Italian heritage, often teaching his grandchildren the same songs and stories taught to him by his father. He had a kind soul! Mike is survived by his wife of 23 years, Judi Marcus Farinelli, of the home, his son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Meri Farinelli, of Shawnee Mission, his daughter and partner, Alisa Farinelli and Aaron Youngstrom, of Lawrence, Kansas, a stepdaughter and husband, Megan and Brad Hankins, and a stepdaughter Gennifer Levey, of Brooklyn, New York. He also leaves two granddaughters, Lucy and Pepper Farinelli, and three step-grandchildren, Emery, Rosie, and Isaac Hankins, a sister and brother-in-law, Roseanne and Wade O’Shields of Shelby, NC, a brother, Steve Farinelli , two Stepsisters, Barbara Gianinni, and Marilyn ****, a stepbrother Tom Gianinni, sister-in-law, Ritchie Marcus of Little Rock, Ar, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Elio Farinelli, his mother Rose Srok Farinelli, his brother Anthony, his sister Nathalie DiBenedetti, twin grandsons, Trigger and Danger, Stepmother, Mary Lou Farinelli, and 2 stepbrothers, Richard and Raymond Gianinni.
Mike’s final wishes were to celebrate his life rather than a funeral service, and in lieu of flowers, he and the family request donations to The University of Kansas Cancer Center, with a special designation to Sarcoma c/o Gary Doolittle, MD, 39th & Rainbow, K.C., Kansas.
