After Texas, leaving with her father and children, they were making their way to Missouri and encountered Indian problems and families fleeing to the south from Missouri and Arkansas. They arrived at Fort Smith, got a pass to Fayetteville and went on to Van Buren where they found an abandoned farm with fruit, potatoes and truck patches. Six of the party of eight became seriously ill. Margaret died Aug 26, 1863.11
