Notes for Jackson Lee Keller
Jackson's birth date is not recorded in either the Gilmer County or Lewis County court records. Neither is his marriage to Martha Anna Dean.
He and Martha moved from Gilmer County, WV to Wichita Falls, TX after December 1893 and before December 1896. Their first two children, Anna and John were born in WV. Their last three children, Kate, Margie, and Frank, were born in TX. Jackson is listed in the 1900 census as a "school teacher". His brother, Lyde, is living with the family. He is employed as a "traveling salesman".

Have come across information indicating the possibility that Jackson might not have died prior to 1910, but may have divorced or abandoned Martha and their children. (Note: In the 1910 and 1920 censuses Martha is listed as a widow.) His brother, Lyde A. Keller's obituary (1937) lists 3 surviving brothers, including "J. L. Keller" of Denver, CO. In searching the census records for 1930 and 1920 I found a Jackson L Keller (born in West Virginia) with a wife, May, working as an optometrist. The age is off by about 7 years. I have been unable to find any record of his death or burial at any time thus far. Further research is needed to try to confirm if this is the same Jackson L. Keller.

Emails from Tom Record June 2004:

Hi Janet!
It was good to hear from you. Your letter brought uncertainty to us as we didn't know that Jackson had a wife other than Mae. The story my wife always heard was that it was Fredrick who deserted his family. Her Grandfather was Lyde A. Keller and his parents were Franklin Keller and Margaret Henie. Notice the different spelling. Jackson was an optometrist in Denver CO and died sometime during WWII. Lyde was a physician in the Pittsburg KS area. Oris Guy was also a physician in the same area.
We have no idea where Frederick was or what he did for a living. The Family story is that Franklin came to Kansas to try to patch up the problem between Fred and his wife.
Enclosed is a picture of the four brothers.. From left to right is Oris Guy, Frederick, Lyde A and Jackson (wearing glasses).
We are going to see Oris's granddaughter this week. If we find any addiitional information we will let you know. We would appreciate any info you have on Frederick and Margaret.
My wife's name is Arlene, the daughter of AnnaBess Keller Bernot and granddaughter of Lyde A. Keller.
We look forward to hearing from you again. Incidently, my legal name is Ralph T. Record, however, I go by Tom.

I want to thank you for your letter of June 2. Without it we would not have bothered to look for Jackson and a previous wife nor where to look for him. As I said in my last email, the brother Fred was the one we thought was the black sheep.
As a result of what we knew and what we found this past week, we can definitely say that the Jackson Keller in Texas in 1900 and the Jackson Keller in Denver in 1910 are one and the same person. The brother Lyde at their home in Wichita county, TX is my wife’s grandfather. He traveled around the country taking photos of families and sent the negatives back to Chicago, I think, for processing. Then he delivered them to the families when the prints returned. That’s how he met his wife and worked his way through medical school.
We can provide you with birthdates and death dates for the brothers except Fred, who apparently disappeared. We are also going to see my Wife’s cousin this weekend who has, we think, the family bible. If we come across any additional data we will share it with you. Also we would appreciate any information on the Henie family that you may have. And any Photos would be very greatly appreciated.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Tom
