55Joseph Edson served as a colonel in King Philip’s War. He was one of the Proprietors of Bridgewater, and on Dec 24, 1683, was one of the ten to whom was assigned a tract on the South Side of the town. In 1686 he received another ten acres. “He resided near Brett’s Corner, at what is called the ‘Old Muster Field’ in East Bridgewater. On Aug 22, 1687 he was Constable of Bridgewater and was sent a warrant to choose commissioners for taking a list of male inhabitants of the town from 16 years of age up, and for valuing estates in it.
“Joseph Edson was known as a man of strict integrity, disposed to be domestic, of uunobtrusive manners, avoiding public distinction and contented in the posession of those moral and religious characteristics that distinguish an honest man and a sincere professor of Christianity” reports “Edsons in England and America”.
Joseph Edson and his wives presumably were buried in the same cemetery as his parents, thogh no marker is now visible
55Among Samuel Edson II's brothers and sisters was Joseph Edson, born in 1649 at Salem. These brothers participated in the Indian Wars together and Joseph did not marry until 1678. He married Experience Field, sister of John Field, who came from Providence in 1677.459
